Manchester’s already enviable indie beer scene is set to gain a brand-new addition as Pigeon Beer Wanderer opens its doors in the city.

Described as a ‘specialist beer parlour’, the new bar and outdoor terrace opens just behind Piccadilly Station on Sheffield Street, neighbouring the likes of Sureshot, Balance, Cloudwater and Track.

Founded by Northern beer specialist Joshua Lightfoot, whose love of beer was shaped at The Hop Emporium, Pigeon has been created as both a destination for serious beer enthusiasts and a welcoming space for curious drinkers looking to discover world-class brewing culture.

Pigeon Beer Wanderer will offer a constantly rotating lineup spanning heritage pilsners, weisse beers, saisons and small-batch independent releases from some of the most respected breweries here in the UK, and across the globe.

“Beer can be as beautiful and complex as wine,” says Lightfoot. “Every beer has its own provenance, its own character and its own ideal way of being served. Pigeon is about celebrating that in a way that feels exciting, welcoming and social. We want people to discover styles, breweries and serving traditions they may never have experienced before.”

The team says the drinks offering also includes aged wild ales, natural wines from Vibeyard and some of the most sought-after beers available anywhere in the UK. For food, Nell’s Pizza will be available to enjoy via click and collect from the brand’s nearby kitchen.

Launching just in time for the World Cup, the venue will be showing games throughout the tournament, too.

Pigeon Beer Wanderer officially opens on Thu 4 Jun. To celebrate the launch, Pigeon is giving away 1,000 free pints across its opening weekend, with 250 complimentary pints available each day from Thu 4 Jun – Sun 7 Jun. To claim, you’ll need to follow on Instagram and visit the venue to claim a pint while stocks last.
