Boston’s finest guitar heroes are back, and to celebrate Frank and the band landing in Manchester with brand new material in the bag, the city is throwing an unofficial Pixies three-dayer. First, on Wednesday 22 November, Dave Haslam goes ‘Close Up’ in conversation with Black Francis (aka Frank Black) himself in a rare interview at the beautifully restored Albert Hall on Peter Street. Here’s your only chance to ask about Kim Deal’s leaving present or Frank’s Instagram addiction. Next up, on Thursday 21, for those lucky enough to bag tickets it’s time to see the mighty Pixies themselves power through their formidable game-changing back catalogue in arguably Manchester’s finest old music venue, the Apollo. Finally, on Friday 22, three nights of Pixies frenzy comes to a head as the Star & Garter plays host to … la la love you!, a full-on Pixies disco promising all your favourite Pixie songs plus the best of the rest from Frank’s solo albums, The Breeders, 4AD label mates and other timeless indie noise.
