Plans to transform the former Hatch site have been revealed, with leisure chain STACK confirming its plans to take over the site.

The group, which already boasts concepts in Newcastle, Lincoln and Sunderland, says it has now submitted its planning application for the Oxford Road site.

Plans include a gateway arch entrance from Oxford Road, leading to an ‘expansive, open plaza’ which will be surrounded by street food vendors and bars.

At the heart of the development will be a large stage which will host daily live entertainment, ranging from family-friendly events and quiz nights to mass sing-alongs and dog shows.

Along with the main plaza and stage, the venue will include two new outward-facing retail units and a dual-aspect coffee shop.

Neill Winch, CEO of STACK, said: “We believe this site is the perfect fit for our concept, and we’re excited to bring our blend of street food, bars, and live entertainment to Manchester. Subject to planning approval being granted, we are confident STACK Manchester will become a much-loved venue for local residents as well as a successful visitor attraction.”

Traders that operated at Hatch, which announced its shock closure in September 2023, have been encouraged to apply for a spot in STACK Manchester, and will be given priority during the selection process.
