Plans for a major new Padel facility located near Piccadilly Station in Manchester city centre have been submitted.

Padel 16, the padel and wellbeing operator founded by footballer Fabio Borini and Manchester entrepreneur Anthony Bingham, has sent off a planning application for its second venue at Baird Street.

The proposals include seven panoramic padel courts, five indoor and two outdoor, together with a cafe, a dedicated Pilates studio and sauna and ice bath facilities.

The venue is being developed in partnership with developer Renaker. The team says the venue has been designed as a ‘community-focused space in which people can meet, exercise, work and spend time together, with the aim of drawing visitors throughout the day.’

The Padel 16 founders commented: “We’re incredibly excited to take this next step. Our vision has always been to create a place that brings people together through sport, wellbeing and community. We’ve seen the positive impact this has had at our first venue in Worsley, and we believe Manchester Piccadilly can become another destination that the whole city can enjoy and be proud of.”

Borini’s playing career included spells at Liverpool, Sunderland, AC Milan and Chelsea, while Bingham is a former rugby player. The Manchester Piccadilly venue follows the company’s first site in Worsley and forms part of the founders’ wider ambition to make padel accessible while supporting the communities in which it operates.

>Andy Cowan, Associate Partner, Planning and Development, Carter Jonas, commented: “Carter Jonas is excited to be part of a project which will deliver a unique and high-quality wellbeing facility for Manchester. The proposals will bring activity to an underused part of the city centre and, with padel’s continued growth across the UK, demand for facilities of this calibre shows no sign of slowing. We look forward to supporting Padel 16 through the planning process.”
