Award-winning American poet Danez Smith stops by the International Anthony Burgess Foundation on a limited UK tour to perform work from their latest collection Don’t Call Us Dead. Praised by the likes of The New Yorker and author Roxane Gay, Smith’s 2017 collection explores themes of race, gender, power and identity with bold energy. Danez Smith has been a twice-runner at the World Poetry Slam for their astonishing performances – for a taste check out Danez viral YouTube video for ‘Dear White America’. The evening is brought to you as part of Manchester Literature Festival 2018 in partnership with The University of Manchester’s Centre for New Writing. Support features Hafsah Aneela Bashir, who has recently written and performed for the Royal Exchange.
