Daydreaming and flights of imaginative fancy fit closely with literature and spoken word so it makes sense to see a festival combining the two. Or rather a micro-festival. Daydreaming In The City will take place on a Sunday afternoon at Home featuring talks, poetry readings, music, film and In The Dark Radio’s return to Manchester with another audio experience. Kicking off what promises to be a laid-back but engaging Sunday festival, will be Professor Felicity Callard discussing the history of daydreaming whilst poets Emma Bennet and James Wilkes perform work that shows how useful daydreaming and imaginative wandering can be. Also at the festival is one of Britain’s most exciting and well regarded poets, Helen Mort. Her new collection, No Map Could Show Them, a Poetry Book Society Recommendation, explores the connection between the poets two keen interested – running and poetry, and the routes and paths they take one on. The festival also features performances from Siddartha Bowes, exploring the role of the poet in the automated world; a sonic journey from In The Dark Radio before a screening of Cocteau’s Orphee; and an event delving into the ways we can use imagination and daydreaming to explore our cities in alternative ways. It’s cold walking or running around the city in November, so why not do it by daydreaming in from the warmth of a comfy seat at Home.
