Experimental jazz band Polar Bear return to Band on the Wall this week, four years after their last appearance there. Led by mammoth-haired drummer Sebastian Rochford, the London-based group are touring their fifth album, In Each And Every One, released on Leeds’ The Leaf Label. This new record – their first since 2010 – continues Polar Bear’s exploration of electronics, finding the band ‘somewhere between the soundsystem and headphones, jazz and avant techno’. Since Polar Bear were last at Band on the Wall, Rochford has worked with the likes of Joanna McGregor, Adele, Brian Eno, David Byrne, Patti Smith and Yoko Ono. Now back playing live, his Mercury Prize-nominated group features Pete Wareham (Melt Yourself Down, Acoustic Ladyland), Mark Lockheart (Loose Tubes), Tom Herbert (The Invisible) and electronics wizard/guitarist Leafcutter John.
