Taking place at HOME throughout August is POUTfest 2015, a showcase of new LGBTQ cinema. The festival is presented by Peccadillo Pictures, in association with Manchester University’s Sexuality Summer School, and Manchester Pride. The event has a different theme each year – and this time round it is ‘Family’. Many of the movies on the programme centre on existing families where one member embraces a new sexual identity, or on people who forge a new kind of domestic situation. The Korean film A Girl at My Door (Sun 16 Aug, 6pm) tells the story of a lesbian police officer who tries to protect a young woman from her abusive parents. Weekend (Mon 31 Aug, 6pm) is a sensitive and realistic portrayal of a drunken one-night stand that ends up meaning much more. The documentary Dressed as a Girl (pictured, Thu 27 Aug, 6.10pm) follows a group of drag performers in the clubs of the East End. Several of the screenings are introduced by lecturers from the University, and in some cases by the filmmakers themselves.
