2016 has been a year filled with far too many famous obituaries; David Bowie and Alan Rickman to name but two. However, in the light Prince’s death a shining beacon of hope can be found in all of his work. The celebration of the artist’s life that has gripped the world, and in particular his hometown of Minneapolis, is reflected in AMC Manchester’s screening of the semi biographical film, Purple Rain. Not only does the film shine on it’s own terms but the addition of an iconic soundtrack which produced such hits as When Doves Cry and obviously Purple Rain itself, helped Prince to claim a place among the stars. So suit up in your new funkiest outfit and head down to the cinema to commemorate one of the greatest artists to have ever walked the Earth.
