Actors such as Christopher Eccleston, Maxine Peake and Mike Joyce are headed to Maxwell Hall at the University of Salford this April for a day of ‘Radical Readings’. An afternoon of prose, poetry and song that looks to give context, and pause for reflection, in the run-up to the commemorations this summer of the bicentenary of the Peterloo Massacre, when armed cavalrymen and soldiers attacked a large peaceful crowd in Manchester. The event is a fundraiser for the Working Class Movement Library and the valuable work they do keeping the memory of working class voices that might otherwise be forgotten.

Sun 14 Apr, Maxwell Hall, University of Salford, Salford M5 4WU. Tel: 0161 736 3601. 2pm, £15, www.eventbrite.co.uk
