For one night only, HOME is hosting a live performance inspired by the challenges faced by LGBT people going through the UK asylum process. The event is presented by Amnesty International and the charity Ice & Fire. This Is Who I Am is based on the actual testimonies of asylum seekers talking about their real life experiences. The subject matter can be hopeful, touching on themes of love and freedom of expression, as well as including honest descriptions of sexual violence and other experiences. The performance is be followed by a Q&A with speakers from Asylum Matters, Amnesty International and the LGBTI Network. The event is part of Refugee Week, a nationwide programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contribution refugees make to the UK, and encourage better understanding between communities.
