The folks at Manchester Art Gallery are currently working hard to ensure that everything’s in order for their grand reopening on Thursday 20 August. With a phased return to normality planned, not all areas will be available to explore at first – but new visitors will be able to view the venue’s exhibitions featuring British and European art and design. Stand-outs include the Pre-Raphaelite paintings of Rossetti, plus famous works by Turner and Stubbs. Also on display is a showcase of new commissions from up-and-coming artists working in different media alongside a brand-new display that will look at the history of the gallery itself and how it relates to the local community. Entry is by advanced booking only, and you’ll soon be able to reserve free tickets via the Manchester Art Gallery’s official website. As there’s still some time to wait, feel free to browse the Gallery’s extensive online collection and programme of activities that can be enjoyed at home.
