Comedy duo Norris and Parker bring their inimitable dark creations to The Lowry Theatre, after great success at three fringes (Manchester, Camden and, of course, Edinburgh) and last October’s first ever Women in Comedy Festival. Drawing comparisons to The League of Gentlemen, Brass Eye and Father Ted, it’s quite impossible to pigeonhole these ladies as they morph into alter ego after alter ego, continually changing costume and psyche to embody widows who cope with the death of their husbands by re-appropriating songs from Destiny’s Child with lyrics about their grief, timid wives with secret IRA affiliations, middle class drama kids empathising with inner city yoots to embarrassingly hilarious effects and many more. Norris and Parker go from sketch to sketch with great ease and an honest charm that involves the audience with these madcap inventions of their minds. Playing at The Lowry as part of the re:play festival and flying the flag for fresh new comedy at the predominately theatre-centric fortnight, they will be helped along by a live band led by Mark Simpson from local band Happy Soul. Go see them at this intimate venue before they get housed in a televisual box and are out of your grasp.
