Changes are afoot under Tib Street casual dining room Evelyn’s, with new private members lounge The Daisy due to open in its basement shortly. Upstairs in its stylish, plant-filled cafe-bar, meanwhile, the menu has undergone a refresh, two years after Evelyn’s opened its doors. Flavours of the world are a big influence on a new selection of dishes, available for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. During the day, the menu is split between breakfast time (before midday) and brunch time (from opening until 5pm), with the latter menu now including fresh ricotta pancakes and shakshuka. Lunch and dinner choices cross over – and we recently visited in the evening to maximise options. Small plates are big everywhere right now, and Evelyn’s menu is no exception: highlights from the refreshed selections were the giant, barbecued chicken wings in a tangy teriyaki sauce, and the duck and sesame salad, set apart by the use of plums. White fish ceviche with avocado and whipped tofu balls are also worthwhile from the short but strong small plates list. Large plate options include tuna poké, plus buttermilk chicken with jerk rice and charred corn – while a crab & shrimp burger stands out from the sandwich selection. Desserts almost stole the show, however – in particular, a perfectly cooked brownie, served with pistachio ice cream, and a coconut reika – a sorbet that was almost marshmallow-y in texture. All in all, the refreshed menu is another step onwards and upwards for Evelyn’s already-strong food offering.
