At the Edinburgh Fringe earlier this year, there was a strange double-take to be had: Richard Herring’s poster showed him holding up his jumper for a tantalising glimpse of his naked Action Man plastic flesh and its non-genital smoothness. The poster heralded the return of one of Herring’s most lauded shows, Talking Cock. A response to the Vagina Monologues and the like, it’s a insightful examination of the male member, a musing on size and what it means to have a penis. Oh there’s a whole load of knob gags too. The sequel, or Second Coming, as Herring – who was Stewart Lee’s comedy partner in Fist of Fun and This Morning with Richard Not Judy – likes to refer to it as, is an updated version of the show he first performed 10 years ago. Now a 45-year-old and very recently married, it’s going to be a different perspective – but one that’s very probably just as junvenile.

The show returns next year – at The Lowry on Saturday 23 March 2013. Click here for more information.
