Riot Jazz are well known round these parts for their ability to put on a stonking good show, full of brassy oomph that effortlessly zaps every fibre of your being with its feel-good factor. Nowadays their reputation precedes them, meaning that when they take it upon themselves to promote something, people should take note. This November they use their local musical weight to bring to Manchester Melbourne’s Hiatus Kaiyote, a four-piece fusing neo-soul, hip-hop and electronic beats with the energy of Latin, jazz and opera. Prominent fans include Erykah Badu, Gilles Peterson and even afro-man Questlove from The Roots, but with all this widespread respect comes a likelihood that the night will sell out pretty quickly. Support comes from Riot Jazz Brass Band and Walk, and the ever-charismatic front man Chunky hosts.
