A special tenancy-shaped Christmas present arrived just before Christmas Day for Manchester’s music fans with news that The Star & Garter’s medium term future is secure. The perennially-threatened music venue has signed a ten year lease with new owners The Mayfield Partnership, which may mean an end to the much loved ‘last ever’ club nights that the venue hosted when it looked like its future was at threat. As part of the regeneration of the back of Piccadilly train station and Mayfield Depot, The Star & Garter will see the partnership invest in the much-loved pub to ensure it stays as a music venue and maintains its unique charm. In addition to being a staple of the Manchester nightlife scene, the 216 year old building was also mentioned in The Courteneers’ hit Modern Love. Over the years, it has played host to countless club nights and gigs, including performances from Status Quo, Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes and Bring Me The Horizon. Here’s to more of the same!
