This summer, Royal Exchange Theatre will set up its eco-friendly mobile theatre—the Den—at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in Cheetham Hill.

Over the course of two weeks, the unique pop-up theatre will host an eclectic mix of events, from family fun days and community shows to theatre, dance and visual art.

The Den was developed to take performances on the go to existing spaces and buildings across Greater Manchester, and forms part of the theatre’s community programme LOCAL EXCHANGE.

This latest instalment, THE DEN IN M8, will run from Thu 28 Jul-Sat 6 Aug and continues a four-year partnership with Cheetham Hill and Crumpsall communities that has featured creative workshops, audio-plays and the shaping of this upcoming summer programme.

Over the past year they have been working together to create a vivid and varied programme for the Den including professional performances, spoken word events, music and a community theatre show created by local makers and performers, as well as local food offers and workshops delivered by talented M8 residents.

THE DEN is one part of a series of in-depth creative residencies that form the backbone of the Exchange’s LOCAL EXCHANGE programme. Designed to reframe the way the Royal Exchange makes work with, by and for the people of Greater Manchester LOCAL EXCHANGE has been developed to create long-lasting and sustainable relationships between communities and artists.
