The annual Salford Music Festival returns today, Thursday 20 September, and continues throughout the weekend. Now in its third year and bigger than ever before, the four-day event boasts an impressive list of over 200 artists, both native and from across the country, performing in an equally admirable 19 venues in and around ‘the other city’. Highlights this year include performances by Salford’s own The Fall (pictured – The Lowry, Fri 20 and Sun 23 Sep; Lower Kersal Social Club, Sat 22 Sep) and local rising star Karima Francis (The Lowry, Fri 21 Sep). The festival is volunteer-led and helps to promote and encourage musicians starting out as well as organising a jam-packed weekend showcasing musical talent. So who knows, if you take a trip over the Irwell you might even see the next Happy Mondays or meet Mark E Smith at the bar.
