Book now: Beat scene pioneer Samiyam at Soup Kitchen

Samiyam aka Sam Baker a pioneer of the east LA beat scene, one of the producers who focused on developing instrumental hip hop over traditional collaborations with MCs. Kutmah’s Sketchbook Sessions and later the Low End Theory club night formed the nucleus of the scene, where beatmakers and DJs networked and influenced each other to create new sounds. Sam met Flying Lotus here, which resulted in 2008’s Rap Beats Vol 1, the debut release for Fly Lo’s Brainfeeder label. He’s since released work on Stones Throw Records, including his latest beat tape Pizza Party, and produced for the likes of Earl Sweatshirt and Pharoahe Monche.
