The Whitworth is taking on a Scandinavian feel for The Frost Fair. New this year, the two day winter fiesta takes place on the first weekend in December and inspired by the Danish concept of hygge. The word loses something in translation, but essentially means a feeling of warmth, cosiness and wellbeing. What’s not to like? In this spirit, the event aims to bring families and friends together to enjoy free activities and entertainment in the galleries and creative spaces as well as some great food and drink. Outside the building, there will be an ice rink, screenings of short films in the Art Garden and live music. There will also be market stalls with international street food and craft ales courtesy of Cloudwater Brewery. The outdoor arts company Walk the Plank will present a performance on the Sculpture Terrace, which will feature theatre, puppetry, and light displays. The big finale, on the Sunday evening is a fireworks display.
