Two contrasting styles of contemporary dance will be on display at The Lowry this month when Scottish Dance Theatre premiere their 40th anniversary show – a double bill of internationally acclaimed choreographers Emilie Leriche (US/Sweden) and Edouard Hue (Switzerland).
The two pieces explore independence and interdependence in dramatically different ways. The first, Rotten Work by Leriche, offers a poetic, slow-burning choreography that lingers in moments of connection, intimacy and quiet emotional depth. It’s a subtly powerful piece concerned with care, mutual dependence and the responsibility we have towards one another.

In contrast, Hue’s The Game of Life is organic and sensation-driven, combining raw virtuosity and emotional intensity in a dynamic physical language. It takes inspiration from puzzles and patterns, exploring how individuals can come together to form a larger, interconnected whole without losing their uniqueness. It’s an examination of how communities and societies are constructed, and what happens when things don’t quite fit together as planned.
For a night of thought-provoking and emotionally powerful dance, this double bill looks hard to beat. Tickets are available from £19.50. Performances take place on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 November.
