The always-brilliant Scratch n Sniff Cinema returns to Cornerhouse in January, with cult Scottish horror classic The Wicker Man. Showing as part of BFI’s Gothic season, the 1973 seminal folk horror traces an investigation into the disappearance of a young girl on a remote island as it becomes evident there’s a darker side to the island’s secretive locals, who claim the girl never existed. Starring Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee, The Wicker Man’s already intense plot will be made all the more vivid with Scratch n Sniff’s scratch cards encapsulating different odours relevant to key scenes in the film – with the audience being prompted to break the gel coating and release the odours along the way, from ‘whisky-sozzled pub patrons’ to the island’s chocolate shop. Just watch out for that iconic finale.
