Sexploitation: A history of adults only cinema at 3 Minute Theatre

As awkward as it might be, the grubby underworld of the adult entertainment industry is still pretty prominent in Manchester. The Cornerhouse may be a respectable cultural establishment, but the fact that it used to be a porno cinema has been slightly airbrushed from history – the gentrified Northern Quarter still has an incredibly high ratio of adults only shops selling all sorts of madness. With that in mind, Certificate X cinema are premiering a documented history of that kind of film, tracing it from the 1930s through to the 1970s. Documenting the days when something was still left for the imagination, That’s Sexploitation features clips from burlesque, nudists, sex-hygiene films, go-go girls and psychedelic flicks, it acts as the opening night of the UK wide Scalarama festival, too.
