International Women’s Day falls on Friday 8 March, a global day celebrating women’s achievements and a calling for gender equality. To celebrate the event this year, the Deaf Institute and Gorilla will be teaming up to bring you SHE PWR, an inclusive space that welcomes humans of all genders, ethnicities, sexualities, disabilities and identities. The event includes talks with prominent female creatives and entrepreneurs, a maker’s market, art, live music and DJs along with plenty of food and drink, with all profits going to MASH (Manchester Action on Street Health). From 4pm at Gorilla, Manchester’s brightest female artists will be showcasing their work at a Maker’s Market including jewellers, bakers, illustrators and florists. DJ and presenter Hattie Pearson will be in attendance from 6pm for Power Q&A, with a panel of inspirational women discussing their careers, the challenges they face and the future of women in business. Gorilla will also be hosting live music from all female fronted musicians on the night. At the Deaf Institute, poet and spoken word artist Elise Hadgraft and feminist artist duo Girls Girls Girls will be in the main bar delivering screen printing workshops, soundtracked by a female DJ line-up. Up in the music hall, attendees can look forward to performances from Ill, Witch Fever, Current Mood Girl and Julia Brado. Local promoter Fat Out will be taking over the basement with a special edition of Karaoke Dungeon. Wristbands for the event, granting access to all events across the day, are now on sale for £5.
