If you’re looking for a unique Christmas present for yourself – or for the culture vulture in your life – then we have the course for you. Starting in mid January, An Introduction to Modernism will run every Thursday evening for five weeks. The event is organised, appropriately enough, by The Modernist Magazine, a quarterly printed publication which centres on this uniquely 20th century aesthetic. It will be held at the zine’s HQ in the Northern Quarter and hosted by writer/co-publisher Eddy Rhead. He will take you by the hand and lead you gently through many facets of Modernism, including its art, architecture and design. The aim of the course is not to offer some deep academic exercise but instead an informal, lively and sociable time with some education thrown in for good measure. They may even lay on some drinks to lubricate things. It’ll be perfect for those whose New Year’s resolution will be to learn new things.
