Serving a selection of ramen, homemade Gyoza and flamboyant rice dishes chased with cocktails, craft beer and sake, authentic Tokyo noodle bar House of Fu is set to open on Portland Street in early 2023.

Featuring a secret terrace, a late-night party area and, of course, bookable karaoke rooms, the latest concept from the team behind Leeds’ beloved Belgrave Music Hall is primed to instantly break into the upper tier of Manchester’s food and nightlife scene.

Drawing together ideas collected from Tokyo, Los Angeles, Portland and New York, the first House of Fu in Leeds enjoyed enormous success following its 2021 opening, after beginning as a smash-hit pop up at the Belgrave Music Hall in 2014. Featuring creative takes on Japanese favourites such as their Chicken Kyiv Gyoza and Cauliflower Katsu Sando, head chef Ben Iley’s meticulously curated menu is the product of his ten years spent working at some of Tokyo’s restaurants, including Aquavit and Fujimamas.

Whilst the menu, interior design and breezy yet animated atmosphere are heavily influenced by the bowl culture both in Japanese megacities and coastal California, the House of Fu team are well-known for their local collaborations, and will be excitedly parsing the Manchester scene for suppliers, makers and creators in service of bringing a peerless ramen joint to the city.
