Manchester International Festival (MIF) has long attracted some of the biggest names in the arts sectors. Now, acclaimed singer and songwriter Nick Cave joins the cast of one of the MIF’s most experimental projects: Dream.
Taking place online from Friday 12 until Saturday 20 March, with times ranging from 10am-2am to allow the production to be enjoyed across the globe, Dream is the culmination of a major collaborative research project: Audience of the Future. Attendees of 2019’s MIF might remember the project as the force behind Skepta’s mixed reality rave: DYSTOPIA987.
Dream is a joint effort between the MIF and the Royal Shakespeare Company, Marshmallow Laser Feast and the Philharmonia Orchestra, and combines theatre, music and cutting-edge motion capture technology. Cave will play the ‘Voice of the Forest’, a mystical character whose voice guides the audience as they explore the virtual world of the midsummer forest.
“Music is an integral part of the Dream experience and we’re thrilled that Nick Cave’s voice will sit alongside the Philharmonia’s living, dynamic score,” said Jane Beese, Head of Music at Manchester International Festival. “With his mystical voice and dark vocal tones, Cave is the perfect person to represent the forest helping audiences traverse the otherworldly land of Dream.”
The performance is FREE to watch, or audiences can purchase a ticket for £10 to participate in the production. Book your ticket here: dream.online. Please see the full performance schedule below.
