Spike Island is a coming of age flick from Mat Whitecross, following a wannabe band made up of five teenagers as they take to the road to see The Stone Roses in their legendary Spike Island gig. It perhaps goes without saying that this very particular gig represents a piece of 90s nostalgia very specific to the north; a time in which Manchester truly shone culturally and Manc-pride was completely rebranded to encompass its thriving music scene. It seems fitting, then, that one of Manchester’s key music centres of today, Band on the Wall, should host the exclusive party to clebrate the film’s launch. The night will include a Q&A for those wishing to find out more from behind the scenes, as well as live performances from local bands such as The Quangos and The Minx.

Spike Island is released on DVD and Blu Ray Mon 14 Oct.
