Billed as a ‘theatrical experience like no other’, the irresistibly compelling new ghost tale-cum-psychological thriller Murder in the Dark brings whip-smart comedic drama, hair-raising scares and edge-of-your-seat tension to The Lowry from Tue 23 to Sat 27 Jan.

On a dark, desolate New Year’s Eve, a car crash on a deserted countryside road forces the famous but tormented singer Danny Sierra to seek refuge in a remote rural English holiday cottage, with his dysfunctional family in tow. Almost immediately, a series of mysterious and unsettling events begin to unfold, and before long they are plunged into darkness. As desperate confusion and creeping anxiety mutate into abject terror, and long held, deeply repressed secrets come to light, Danny and his family soon discover that nothing is as it seems.

Led by a decorated cast of television and theatre favourites including Tom Chambers (Holby City, Casualty, Waterloo Road, Father Brown and Strictly Come Dancing champion), Susie Blake (Victoria Wood’s As Seen on TV), Rebecca Charles (The Dresser) and Jonny Green (It’s a Sin), the latest spine-chilling tale from the mind of acclaimed playwright Torben Betts promises to confound and captivate audiences with a wickedly funny blend of gripping suspense and dark humour, borne by ‘a narrative that looks straight out of a Black Mirror episode’ (East Midlands Theatre).
