Even in the cold depths of January, the Northern Quarter’s spoken word nights continue unabated. The Real Story – a free night that celebrates creative non-fiction – will be taking place at its usual home of Gullivers on Oldham Street in January. This time, the headlining act is Jenn Ashworth, an acclaimed author from Preston. She first made her mark on the literary world in 2009, with her award-winning debut novel A Kind of Intimacy. Two further books (Cold Light, and The Friday Gospels) followed, along with forays into short fiction. Ashworth’s work has drawn comparisons to that of Ruth Rendell and Patricia Highsmith. As usual with The Real Story, there will be plenty of other literary types performing too. The full line-up is yet to be announced, but keep an eye on the website below for updates.
