Manchester’s Bundobust won Restaurant of the Year at the Manchester Food and Drink Awards in 2017 – and the curry-cafe/beer-hall remains massively busy no matter what time you visit. Located just off Piccadilly in a converted underground bar, ivory-coloured tiles lighten the walls and seating is sharing tables, bar stools and leather booths. Indian small plates and beer are the main attractions – tarka daal, for example, dosas, bhajis and chaat – and everything is designed to share. December also see the return of sprout bhajis (£4.50), served on a bed of sharp, cranberry sauce, a cinnamon and star anise infused ‘Festive Curry‘ (£7.50 with rice), and a cinnamon and Belgian Biscuit ice-cream made by local creators, Northern Bloc. To drink, there’s a short natural wine list starting at £5 for 175ml supplied by Manchester’s natural wine experts, Love and Labour. However, we plump for beer; a third of ridiculously potent Aventinus Eisbock (12% ABV), and a festive, orange IPA, Mikkeller’s Hoppy Lovin Christmas (7.9% ABV) that oozes class. Bundobust Christmas menu is available at Bundobust Leeds and Manchester until Sunday 23 December. Food combos cost £44.60 for four, or £82.50 for the whole menu  – or just pick and choose your way though menu. And don’t forget the sprout bhajis.
