Stage: A COVID-safe drive-in theatre is coming to Manchester next year

Plans have been revealed for a new COVID-safe drive in theatre which is due to launch at the Trafford Centre in spring 2021. The DriveInside theatre was teased earlier this year before the continued chaos of 2020 halted its plans. Now the project – which will be a 68,000 sq ft marquee on a dedicated parking space, allowing viewers to enjoy theatre productions in a safe environment – is set to become a reality, creating 1000 new jobs in the process.

Located at the Trafford Centre, the 800 car capacity space promises to be suitable for even strict tier 3 restrictions, with visitors getting their own dedicated parking space and allowed to exit their vehicle on the driver’s side only, where they can sit and enjoy the show in a private and socially-isolated area. When it comes to content, immersive stage troupe Beyond theatre aim to present more than 30 productions over a month-long run which is due to start in March 2021.
