Never the kind of place to shy away from things highbrow, Chorlton is hosting its own book festival. From this Friday until the end of the month, many events will be taking place throughout the suburb. The headline event, this Saturday at St Werburgh’s Church, is an evening with local author Jackie Kay, who will be giving readings of her award-winning prose. Next Saturday, meanwhile, Ellen Taylor, a writer for Coronation Street, will be hosting a creative writing workshop. A new play, Opening 1914, to be performed at both Chorlton Library and the Edge Theatre, tells the story the library’s opening against the backdrop of the First World War. If you’re looking for some new reading material to enjoy during these dark nights, the Horse & Jockey pub is hosting a book fair. See the website below for full listings and booking info.
