On display at Spinningfields from Thu 19 – Sat 21 Oct, a new, never-before-seen artwork by award-winning contemporary artist Stefan Reiss is set to illuminate the city streets and imbue Manchester with a dose of nocturnal magic.

Titled O.T. 1191, the captivating piece began as a digital drawing consisting wholly of straight lines. Reiss then coloured the lines and negative fields by applying his ‘colour alphabet’ – an innovative technique which assigns a colour to each letter of the Latin alphabet according to how it sounds, and where that sound originates, inside the oral cavity. The two-dimensional work was then meticulously transmuted into a breathtaking, corporeal haptic structure composed of ship ropes and metal beams measuring 6.5m long, 7m deep and 8m high.

Free to visit and with no booking necessary, O.T.1191’s worldwide debut opens in Spinningfields at 6pm on Thu 19 Oct, and remains active until 11pm throughout its stay.
