Hardcore hip-hop fans should head to Gorilla this Thursday as the label that brought J Dilla’s Donuts into the world, Stones Throw Records, brings its new off-kilter documentary to the UK for a live screening tour. Founded in 1996 by Chris Manak (aka Peanut Butter Wolf), following the death of his childhood friend, the rapper Charizma, the LA-based label has become one of the most respected labels supporting left-field artists. Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton traces its development – from its humble beginnings in a former bomb shelter to its most recent chapter. Weaving together archival material, rare concert footage and in-depth interviews, take in the history and culture of Stones Throw’s success, with a little help from the likes of Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Tyler the Creator, Mike D, Questlove, Common and Geoff Barrow.
