Piccadilly Station will host a promenade play that explores ‘Kindertransport’, a mode of transit that rescued children from Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia in 1938. Suitcase takes audiences on a journey across the station’s platforms to recreate scenes of bewildered children, waiting foster parents, transport organisers and bemused bystanders. The performance has been devised to commemorate 75 years since Kindertransport, which saved almost 10,000 children from death. To accompany the performance, musical director Max Reinhardt’s soundtrack will blend the music of the day with music from the Old Country. Watch the production’s trailer below.
