BBC 6Music’s walking musical encyclopedia Stuart Maconie invites you, and a few of his friends, along to Moston’s Miners Community Arts and Music Centre to feast upon the best in Manchester’s music, spoken word and film. Not just the counterpoint to Mark Radcliffe on their hugely popular radio show, Maconie is an author of several books on modern society and music, and will be reading select passages from these tomes. A raconteur of great repute, Maconie is a man who knows his onions and speaks passionately and eloquently. Having worked as a music journalist for many years, Maconie has gathered more than his fair share of musical acquaintances. One such is The Smiths’ drummer Mike Joyce who will be DJing throughout the evening, providing a background of indie classics to fill those awkward silences. California-raised, Manchester-based singer-songwriter Jesca Hoop will be performing an acoustic set from her back catalogue while in the centre’s wonderful Small Cinema you can enjoy a selection of hand-picked art hose shorts and local films. A licensed bar is on site, and a lovely night will be had in this celebration of Manchester.
