A new, two-day festival comes to Manchester this summer. Exploring the influence and legacy of electronic music, Subliminal Impulse takes over the Northern Quarter on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 July. Nine venues are involved and the event is headlined by electronic duo Chris & Cosey at Band On The Wall. The electronic industrial pair last performed in Manchester at Rafters in 1980, then part of post-punk experimental outfit Throbbing Gristle. Bringing together artists from across the globe to explore “the notion of electronic music” in the heart of Manchester, Subliminal Impulse aims to showcase new and emerging talent, as well hosting in-depth discussion panels involving key figures. First names announced for these interview panels include author and journalist Jon Savage, as well as Berlin-based musician and filmmaker Mark Reeder. Speaking on the event’s first outing, festival organiser Alan Hempsall says “we were keen to make our mark in the first year by booking headline artists that have a innovative legacy yet remain at the cutting edge of electronic music”. The majority of events across the two days will be free to enter, watch this space for the full line up.
