Materialise is an exhibition of young makers co-curated by Manchester Craft & Design Centre and the Creative Agents at 42nd Street, a Manchester charity supporting young people aged 11-25 in terms of emotional wellbeing and mental health. Showcasing the work of five artists, makers and designers chosen via an open call competition, the exhibition includes textiles, ceramics, and wood work. The artists involved are Freya Goodwin (textiles), Vanessa Lam (textiles), Jessie Roberts (ceramics), Aleks Tedstone (wood), and Cathie Thurgate (textiles and each artist was chosen for their exciting approach to their material. The exhibition’s title is, therefore, remarkably fitting. For those keen to be among the first to see the new show, there’s an exhibition launch which is open to the public on Thursday 24 May from 6-9pm. There will be drinks on offer in return for donations, the chance to be the first to see the work, meet the artists, and a range of short presentations and speeches.
