Superbyte Festival at Jabez Clegg with art, music and retro games

If you are of a certain age you will have a special place in your heart for the stripped back electronic muzak of Zelda, Mario Brothers and Sonic. Let’s not discuss what that age is – it makes us feel old. If not only for nostalgia, 8-bit music and art gains momentum every year, with last September’s festival becoming a musical and cultural first for Manchester – and following a further celebration in February upstairs at Gullivers, Superbyte is ready to cement itself in the musical calendar as a festival of repute. Pioneers of chip music MegaByte join forces with CalmDownKidder to present two days of retro gaming, visual artistry and music, all inspired by consoles of yesteryear. If the music of Rainbow Islands (below) brings a tear to your eye then this may be for you – though you’d be wrong to dismiss this as a trip down memory lane. These kids are using the past to play for the future.
