For generations, the work of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson inspired and enthralled youngsters. If their names don’t immediately strike a chord, then the programmes they created in a humble Slough warehouse will: Thunderbirds, Stingray, Joe 90 and Captain Scarlet are just four of the big titles that make up their marionette oeuvre. This Sunday, the Thunderbirds won’t be emerging from behind a palm tree or under a swimming pool, but from the screen of Gorilla’s theatre hideaway. The special screening, which has been touring the country, features episodes of the aforementioned big hitters along with editions of lesser-known shows such as Four Feather Falls and The Secret Service. This eight-hour slog through the annals of TV history is just one of the many events happening as part of the BFI’s Days of Fear and Wonder season, which has been screening many a homegrown sci fi yarn – as well as a few from overseas – and is being presented by cult/horror curators Grimm Up North. Altogether, this should prove to be an afternoon of F.A.B. classic telly.
