To tie in with Jamie Shovlin’s Hiker Meat exhibition at Cornerhouse, Tales of Whatever moves to the one bar in Manchester that could well have been the set for a 1970s exploitation movie. The Gaslamp is located in the former kitchen’s of a children’s mission and will serve the atmosphere of the storytelling event well, which, for once, leans toward fictional rather than actual tales. The same rules apply, whereby participants are required to stand in front of the crowd and speaking unaided for ten minutes about a story from their past. Only this time, a few lies will be thrown in for good measure, resulting in believable stories that may have you doubting what is real and what isn’t. A great night of marginal fiction from poetic mouths in a great setting – and its free too.
