TEDxManchester has confirmed it will be returning to the city this spring.
Described as ‘a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience’, TedxManchester will again take over The Bridgewater Hall on Sat 1 Mar.
Last year’s event featured an eclectic mix of talks ranging from Timpson CEO James Timpson and Marika Taylor, a former student of Stephen Hawking to high-flying international lawyer Selma Masood who shared her White Collar Boxing journey.
This year, the lineup will include the likes of Carl Miller, a ‘dark web detective’ who’ll share more about his discovery of a ‘murder-for-hire’ website and his attempts to to warn those included on a ‘kill list’ when police were slow to react.
Charlotte Armitage will be discussing her research and work as one of the leaders of a growing global movement to warn parents and education leaders about the mounting evidence showing the dangers of modern digital devices.
Olympic Gold Medalist cyclist, Chris Boardman, shares how he was able to stretch his abilities to achieve extraordinary things, while Pam Warhurst, former Leader of Calderdale Council, chair of an NHS trust, deputy chair of The Countryside Agency, and Chair of the Forestry Commission, tackles organic change in the 21st century.
Completing the programme so far, award-winning fitness coach Javeno McLean talks about giving up his career as a professional athlete to evangelise the transformative benefits of exercise for all, and Professor Simona Francese explores an unlikely but highly promising alternative to traditional cancer screening.
TedxManchester is an independently organised TED event, one which is inspired by the famous conference. Organisers say TedxManchester seeks to ‘combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.’
