Test Card: free A/V-themed talks & socials at Lever Street’s Texture

Test Card is a series of meet-ups and talks in Manchester aimed at those involved in audio/visual media, with a focus on A/V Performance. The idea behind the project is to explore ideas of what cinema could be in the future. Test Card events lined up so far include short, free talks by musicians, VJs and filmmakers as part of a programme which seeks to enable creatives (and the A/V curious) to compare and share knowledge and collaborate. Here’s is a round up of Test Card events taking place this Spring – we particularly like the look of the Robert Henke event in just a few days time…

AV Silk Road Launch Party
This month’s Test Card meet up celebrates the launch of the ‘AV Silk Road’. This collaborative project between Manchester’s Test Card, the Birmingham-based Chromatouch and VJ London aims create a national network for AV artists in the UK. VJ London’s L’Aubaine will be on hand with a performance of her live cinema project, Morocco. All are welcome especially budding VJs, filmmakers and musicians looking to collaborate in multimedia or make new friends in the field.

Talk: Robert Henke
The leap year’s extra day sees Test Card proposing a series of head-scratchers for Henke, the algorithms whizz behind Lumière who has more than 20 years of experience to call upon.

Talk: Christopher Allen (The Light Surgeons)
Next to sit in the hot seat is the creative director of The Light Surgeons, a video production company whose CV includes everything from photography and graphic design to art installations, motion graphics and live cinema.

Talk: Emmanuel Biard (Eman)
FutureEverything and Warehouse Project have already showcased Biard’s skills with visualisation software, so he’s used to lighting up some of the largest stages and complementing vast soundsystems. He’ll reveal some of his experiences operating as his profesional alter-ego ‘Eman’ before opening up to the floor.

Talk: Dan Hett & Donald Hanson
A double-headlining Q&A sees the gifSlap VJ Donald Hanson Skyping live from the US, before Manchester-based Hett shares what he’s learned from the fruits of his livecoding and improv visuals repertoire.
