Liam Hopkins of Manchester-based studio Lazerian is currently installed at the Bench Self Made Gallery with his experimental collection of ceramic works. The pieces are based around the properties of ceramic slip, laboratory glassware and Victorian drawing machines, and are all produced on site in real time. The project seeks to hark back to traditional machinery, removing the modern reliance upon computer technology, to revisit art that requires human reaction. After each piece has been constructed with ceramic, Hopkins then moulds them into various forms, and in doing so bringing the collection to life in front of audiences.
