Grimmfest, the same fright-loving-folk that bring us annual scare fest Grimm up North, will be heading to Stockport on Wed 24 Jul to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Blair Witch Project. Released back in 1999, this now-iconic horror helped revolutionise the genre without breaking the bank. Directors Edwardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick’s tale of three plucky documentary filmmakers who venture into the eerier Maryland woods in search of the legendary Blair Witch reportedly only cost a scant $60,00o to make but thanks to a smart marketing campaign, some terrifying visuals and a strong word-of-mouth game, their little film went on to gross more than $250million worldwide. Grimmfest will be saying Happy Birthday to this horror classic by screening the film from a 35mm print at The Plaza in Stockport. What’s more, the film will be accompanied by a post-movie discussion led by Dr Sorcha Ní Fhlainn of the Manchester Centre for Gothic Studies at Manchester Metropolitan University. Are you brave enough to attend? Tickets are just £6 (plus booking fee) and can be bought here.
