Wikipedia says “Exploitation film is… generally considered to be both low budget and of low moral or artistic merit” – which kind of explains why many of them have gained such a cult following over the years. Manchester’s Certificate X screenings have been gaining their own die-hard niche of fanatics too – since launching in August, they’ve put on Flesh Gordon, a double bill of The Wicked Dwarf, Nekromatik and various others – and they trod further down that path with The Candy Snatchers. Catching a viewing of this is rare – understandably so given the plot revolves around the abduction and alive burial of a teenage girl (named Candy, natch) in the hopes of getting ransom money. Of course, this isn’t for everyone – one of the main characters is played by then-Playboy model Tiffany Bolling – but it sounds like fun to us.
