From the foundations of acting for young people to an adults-only introduction to ukelele, The Edge Theatre offers a delightfully eclectic range of introductory classes and workshops to kick off its 2023 calendar.

Running at 5pm weekly from Mon 9 Jan until Mon 13 Feb, The Edge Youth Theatre hosts an extensive introduction to a variety of fundamental skills and techniques for young people interested in theatre, performance and dramatic development while making new friends. The classes will focus on vocal ability, movement and text work as well as improvisation through a variety of games, storytelling, singing, music and more. Each session is priced at just £6, payable as a half-term.

Taking place every Monday evening at 7.30pm from 9 Jan to 27 Feb, the ‘hugely popular’ 8-week Introduction to Acting course provides a series of invaluable lessons for anyone who wishes to cultivate their stagecraft, with workshops on acting, spontaneity, creativity, imagination, communication, presentation, devising, group working and more through a range of games, improvisation and creative exercises. Priced at just £96, the program guarantees ‘a good laugh with a friendly group of people’ while learning directly from The Edge’s Artistic Director, Janine Waters.

From Wed 11 Jan to Wed 22 Feb at 7pm weekly, The Edge’s adults-only ‘Ukebox’ ukelele classes promise a fresh and deliriously fun way to make new friends while learning your favourite songs, with roles available for both intermediate and advanced players in a relaxed atmosphere. Course fees work out at just £8 per class, and Forsyths of Deansgate offer discounts on ukeleles when you present your Ukelele Club booking.

Beginning on Wed 1 Feb and running through to Wed 29 Mar (with no session on Wed 22 Feb), The Edge Young Actors Company offers a chance for young people to improve their theatrical skills while contributing to a performance piece. With sessions on ensemble work, text delivery and physical theatre techniques, the course equips young people with ‘a toolkit to creatively approach theatrical text’ with an opportunity to perform onstage at The Edge. Priced at £8 per session the course is payable as a half-term and runs from 5-7pm weekly.
