Presented by world-renowned theatre producer Bill Kenwright CBE, the acclaimed stage adaptation of The Shawshank Redemption, widely regarded as the greatest film of all time, runs at the Lowry from Mon 31 Oct to Sat 5 Nov.

Based on the stirring short novel by literary titan Stephen King, The Shawshank Redemption is a profound, soul-stirring exploration of desperation, injustice, friendship and hope in the suffocating micro-society of a 1940s maximum security prison.

Starring award-winning actor Joe Absolom as Andy Dufresne, alongside Ben Onwukwe reprising his critically acclaimed role as Red, the story follows the wrongful incarceration of a mild-mannered accountant who is handed a double-life sentence for the murder of his wife and her lover.

Confined to the infamous Shawshank State Prison, Andy begins his new life behind bars before striking up an unlikely friendship with prison fixer, Red. His fragile peace is disrupted when the corrupt, remorseless Warden Stammas singles Andy out as a subservient tool for his laundering operation, prompting him to hatch the most famous escape plan of the century.

Described as a ‘must-see show’ by the ObserverThe Shawshank Redemption is an unmissable iteration of a classic tale which celebrates the indomitable human spirit in the face of impossible despair.
